July 17, 1981 – January 4, 2017
Angus Alexander Brown, 35, was one of Atlanta’s most talented young chefs and restaurateurs. His simple yet spectacularly original food fed our city. His kindness and larger than life humor fed our spirits.
Born and raised in Atlanta, he attended both The Westminster Schools and Woodward Academy. Angus graduated from Portsmouth Abbey in Portsmouth, RI. Angus was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at College of Charleston, in Charleston, SC. Octopus Bar, the first of several ventures with partner, Nhan Le, was an immediate critical and popular success, and remains the industry favorite for late night dining. Brown and Le went on to open the James Beard nominated LUSCA in Buckhead and the acclaimed 8ARM in Poncey-Highland. Another Atlanta based restaurant, AMA, was in the works. Angus will be remembered as much for his infectious charm as he will for his profound impact on the local culinary scene.
Angus is predeceased by his father, George Brown, IV. He is survived by his mother, Terry Walker Brown, his sisters, Mackenzie Brown Bartlett and Terry Henegar Carlton Brown, his brothers, George "Fiver" Brown V and Walker Fordham Brown. He is also survived by nieces, Georgia Clementine Bartlett and Finley Elizabeth Brown and nephews, Marshall Walker Bartlett and Otis Brown and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will take place at the Cathedral of St. Philip on January 9th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the Community Farmers Market of Atlanta, GA, https://cfmatl.org or to the Giving Kitchen, https://thegivingkitchen.org.
