Arthur Fredrick Dratz

Arthur Fredrick Dratz passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 1, 2018. He served in WWII as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He received a doctorate in biochemistry from Duke University in 1953, and worked in the nuclear medicine department of the VA Hospital until his retirement. He was a 25-year volunteer at the Budget Helper Shop, a thrift shop sponsored by St Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church. His hobbies included model railroading, dollhouse miniatures, telling jokes and weaving potholders. Dr. Dratz is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Sockwell (Ty); granddaughter, Angela Perkins (Mike); grandson, Russ Sockwell; six great-grandchildren. Dr. Dratz was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Betty Jean Dratz. A private memorial service will be held at St Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army.
