

Betty Routsos Alexander passed away on Saturday afternoon, May 23, 2015, surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Atlanta to Themistocles and Victoria Stephens Routsos. After graduating from Girls' High and Agnes Scott College, she taught 6th grade at Morris Brandon Elementary and Sara Smith Elementary in the City of Atlanta. On June 16, 1957, she married George Thomas Alexander of Worcester, Massachusetts. After the birth of her two sons, she began a career as a devoted homemaker. She was a lifelong member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Atlanta. For many years, Betty was a member of the Church choir and a Sunday School teacher. She was involved in and served as an officer of numerous church and Greek community organizations, including the Maids of Athena, Daughters of Penelope, and Philoptochos. She volunteered for several years with the Annunciation Summer Day Camp and worked on the staff of the Church newspaper, The Annunciator. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, George Alexander, her son, Thomas Alexander, her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Celeste Alexander, and her favorite grandson, Ian Alexander, all of Atlanta. She is also survived by her sister, Kathryn Tsiropoulos of Atlanta, her sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie and Spero Peppas of Dunwoody, nephew, Arthur and his wife, Gina Tsiropoulos, and great-nephew, Drew Tsiropoulos. Family and friends will be received from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday, May 26, at Patterson's Oglethorpe Hill with a prayer service at 7pm. The funeral service will be at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 2500 Clairmont Road, Atlanta, on Wednesday, May 27, at 1:00pm, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery following. The Family thanks you all for your love, prayers, and support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Endowment Fund of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation.
