Carol was born October 29, 1940, in Columbus, Georgia and was raised by her parents, Guy and Elizabeth Riddle. She attended Columbus High School where she was on the girl’s basketball team and editor of the newspaper, The Blue Streak. She also was active in her community, serving as a leader in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls.
Carol attended the University of Georgia on a journalism scholarship and wrote for UGA’s Red and Black. Her professional career began through an internship with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and continued with other local Atlanta organizations including WAGA, Turner Communications, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, Cox Data Services, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Carol was an avid reader. She had a home library filled with thousands of books. She particularly enjoyed mystery and non-fiction genres, as well as the bard himself, William Shakespeare. She enjoyed volunteering at her children’s, and later grandchildren’s, schools and with the United Methodist Women at her church, Peachtree Road United Methodist. On any given day, she could be found cheering on local Atlanta sports teams, especially the Atlanta Braves. She treasured time spent with family and passing on lessons from (grand)mother’s knee (“A jar of sauce in the freezer is money in the bank”). She loved sticking her toes in the sand at the beach; and was a superb self-taught home chef.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William Philip Lupo; and former spouse and life-long friend, Anthony Ippolito.
She is survived by her daughters, Amanda Leah Ippolito and Angela Marie Ippolito of Atlanta, GA, four grandchildren, Marie James, Joey Ippolito, Taylor Pilcher, and Bailey Pilcher; and one great-granddaughter, Aniston James; as well as a host of close family and friends.
We love you, Mom. A bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck.
A celebration of life will be held at Dunwoody Pines Retirement Community in Dunwoody, Ga on Sunday, October 13th, 2024 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
