Catherine Elizabeth (Lib) Sevick died on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 106 years of age. She was born in Hicksville, NY March 21, 1917. Her family later moved to Detroit, Michigan where they started a trucking business that helped them survive the Great Depression.
Lib met her husband of 53 years, George, playing badminton. They shared a passion for golf, tennis and card games. After living in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania, the couple moved to Norcross, GA in 1982 where she lived for 40 years. Mom kept active playing golf until her mid 80’s and duplicate bridge up to her 103 birthday. She loved a good mystery novel and celebrated her 106 birthday with her favorite drink: A perfect Manhattan with a twist. During the last 16 months, we shared our amazing mother with the caring staff of Goodwin House Alexandria, VA.
Lib was preceded in death by her husband in 1993. She is survived by her three children (Susan Gampfer, George Sevick, and Robert Sevick) along with four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
When asked what was her secret to living over 100, she liked playing bridge to keep her mind sharp and being with friends. We know her as a fiercely independent woman, never complaining or saying a bad word about anyone and also a very sharp bridge / UNO player.
A celebration mass will be held on Tuesday January 23 at 11 o’clock at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody, GA. Interment at 1 o’clock at Arlington Memorial Cemetery in Sandy Springs, GA.
In lieu of flowers, remember our mother by getting together with friends and playing a card or board game.
