Charles S Weaver

Charles was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on August 18, 1941, to Charles O. Weaver and Martha W. Weaver. After graduating from Harrisonburg High School, he attended Davidson College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He went on to Princeton Theological Seminary, earning both a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology.

Charles dedicated his life to serving others. He was a Presbyterian minister and served churches in Maryland, New Jersey, and Virginia throughout his ministry. His calling to serve extended beyond the church as well. Charles served for many years as a chaplain in the United States Army, including an overseas assignment on the Sinai Peninsula as a member of the international peacekeeping force established following the Camp David Accords. He later continued his military service with the North Carolina National Guard and ultimately retired from the armed forces as a Major.

Following his military retirement, Charles continued his commitment to helping others through his work with the Cumberland County Department of Social Services in North Carolina, where he completed his professional career.

Charles was devoted to his family and was married to his beloved wife, Jean, for 61 years. He is survived by Jean; his daughter, Carolyn Weaver Fernando (Nishan Fernando); and his grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren, and Christian Fernando, all of Atlanta. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Tamara Blattner.

A lifelong sports fan, Charles was an avid supporter of the Atlanta Braves and Davidson College athletics, especially basketball. After moving to Atlanta several years ago, he also became an enthusiastic follower of the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Falcons. He enjoyed following his teams and sharing that enthusiasm with his family.

Charles will be remembered for his strong faith, his commitment to service, his love of family, and his genuine interest in the people and communities around him. His life was one of dedication—to his church, his country, his work, and his family. He leaves behind a legacy of service and love that will live on in those who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Charles to the Dementia Society of America.
