After a valiant, nearly 3 year battle with an aggressive form of Multiple Myeloma, Christopher (Chris) William Wallis, began his eternal journey on November 14, 2022 at 34 years old. Our beloved Chris was laid to rest at Arlington Memorial Park (Sandy Springs, GA) on November 19, 2022.
The only son of Teresa and David Wallis, Chris was born in Dekalb County, Georgia on July 9, 1988.
As a child, he was an avid video gamer, a natural with a set of drums and loved the challenge of a good chess game, at which he very rarely lost. Throughout his formative years and into adulthood, Chris successfully competed at state and national level chess tournaments, winning multiple trophies and titles. He also had a love of music, particularly percussion and jazz, which lead him to both the Chamblee High School and Georgia Tech drumlines. While in college at Georgia Tech, Chris discovered a passion for skydiving, accruing 500 jumps, 500 wind tunnel hours and competing nationally with the winning Georgia Tech Skydiving team. Chris graduated Georgia Tech in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He then went on to utilize his hard-earned knowledge as a senior design engineer for Motorola, a database developer for CDC and a software coder, having created numerous computer-based video games from scratch, including composing the music scores himself.
As an adult, Chris developed a boundless interest in adventure. His most prized travel achievements comprised scaling to base camp at Mt. Everest in Nepal and completing the 100-mile Three Passes Trek through the Everest region solo. In other trips, he hiked and camped through the Grand Canyon and Glacier National Parks, as well as international destinations in Canada and cruising through the Bahamas.
Chris’s steadfast spirit during his illness is an inspiration to everyone. His hope for a cure was forever unwavering, even in the face of unfavorable odds. He voraciously researched and actively participated in his treatment approaches, never hesitating to volunteer for the next available trial.
Chris is survived by Teresa Wallis (mother), David Wallis (father), Stephanie Wallis (sister), Irena Ratajczak (grandmother), Judy Wallis (aunt), Doug (Joanne) Wallis (uncle), Tom Ratajczak (uncle), Berni Gardiner (aunt), Aleksandra Ratajczak (aunt), numerous cousins, other family members and dear friends.
We will profoundly miss Chris’s kindness, sense of humor and infinite intellect. We will treasure memories of his worldly adventures, many talents, and musical abilities. He will be forever in our hearts and always on our minds.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation can be made in Chris’s honor. www.themmrf.org
