Clarence Albert Hollingsworth Sr. of Athens GA died August 8, 2013.. He was born December 4, 1936 in Murray County Ga. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp s. He also served as an US Army Chaplain, and while in Vietnam he earned a Bronze Star in combat, which is very rare for a Chaplain. He was awarded the Army Commendation and the Vietnam Service Medal. Reverend Hollingsworth received a Bachelors of Arts in History from Shorter College and a Master of Divinity from Emory University and did Doctoral graduate work at the University of California, Berkeley. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gail Hollingsworth; sister, Nancy (Mike) Sparkman; brothers, David (Pat) Hollingsworth & Richard (Barbara) Hollingsworth; sons, Al Hollingsworth, Luke Hollingsworth & John Hollingsworth; daughter, Kimberlee (Alan) Pogue; granddaughters, Ashley Hollingsworth, Emily Pogue, & Whitley Hollingsworth; grandsons, Colton Hollingsworth and Elijah Pogue. Rev .Hollingsworth had a career spanning over 30 years in service to God as a pastor, leading several churches of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church and in Tacoma, Washington. He also served on the faculty at Young Harris College & Georgia Military College. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 12 at 11 am at Patterson’s Spring Hill Chapel; entombment will follow at Westview Abbey.
