Delmonte, David William (Dave), 88, peacefully passed after a brief illness, surrounded by family on June 17, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born on May 29, 1930 in Auburn, New York but spent most of his life in Wilmington, Delaware; Atlanta, Georgia; and Avalon, New Jersey.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Frances Delmonte. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Constance G. Delmonte, and six children, Monica D. Jackson (Richard) of Richmond, Virginia; Christopher D. Delmonte (Marie) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Mark W. Delmonte (Susan), Mary D. Connolly (Tim), David P. Delmonte (Genna), and Martin H. Delmonte (Gayle), all of Atlanta. Dave also leaves behind his beloved thirteen grandchildren, Sarah Kriss (Andrew), Alan and Julia Jackson; Mary, Madelyn, and William Delmonte; David, Meghan, Erin, and Kate Connolly; David W. Delmonte, II; Grace and Emily Delmonte. He is survived by four siblings, Richard Delmonte (Lorraine) of Summerville, South Carolina; Reverend Albert Delmonte of Rochester, New York; Robert Delmonte (Sandy) of Canandaigua, New York; and Terri Broderick (Steve) of Palm City, Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
After receiving his B.S. in Chemistry from Villanova University in 1952, Dave earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame in 1956. A 32-year career with Hercules, Inc. as a chemist, researcher, and divisional manager began in Wilmington and included a period of time managing a research center in Atlanta along with multiple international assignments, culminating in his return to Wilmington where he retired in 1992. Dave was an active parishioner of St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church in Avalon for the past 20 years. As a devout Roman Catholic, Dave loved his church, his family, the beach in Avalon, sailing, classical music, Notre Dame Football, and the Philadelphia Flyers.
