Deane was born in White Plains New York on October 14, 1930 to Elizabeth Stapleton Stokes and John W. Stokes, Sr. He attended high school in White Plains, NY and Stuart, Florida. He then attended & graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University where he played football and joined Delta Tau Delta fraternity. In 1953 Deane began his service in the Navy where he spent 2 years on the USS Denebola as 1st Lieutenant during the Korean War. After a few interesting jobs including, stevedoring & Salmon fishing in Alaska, Deane began a career in real estate that has spanned five decades. He started his real estate career with Helmsley-Spear in New York City where he worked leasing office space in the city. He then moved back to Stuart, Florida and began developing and selling convenience food stores. After marrying his wife of 51 years, Deane moved to Atlanta to continue developing commercial real estate including, office warehouse, strip shopping centers, more convenience food stores as well as several restaurants including Bonanza and McDonald’s. He continued to individually manage many of these properties until his health began to fail three years ago. Although his role changed, he remained actively involved in the business up until his passing. Deane had a lot of varied interests in his long and happy lifetime. First and foremost, he cherished his time with his family and friends. He loved the water, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, skin diving and spearfishing. He loved to sing and was a member of the Stone Mountain Barbershop Chorus for several years. He enjoyed running and lifting weights and exercised regularly throughout his entire life. A highlight of Deane’s week was meeting his buddies on Saturday at the Corner Pizza restaurant to play poker. He enjoyed watching football and baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. Deane’s greatest passion was following and serving Jesus Christ and sharing the gospel through his involvement in many Christian Ministries. Christian Business Men’s Committee was a large part of his life, as well as Leader’s Legacy, Life to Life, Genesis Bible Church, BTCP (Bible Training Centre for Pastors) and countless others. He generously and faithfully supported these ministries for years. He leaves behind to cherish his memory and legacy, his wife of 51 years Beverly M. Stokes; his two children Deane H. Stokes, Jr. (Caroline) and Missy Stokes Lockhart (Matt); 4 grandchildren, Britain W. Lockhart, Anna Kate Lockhart, Deane H. Stokes III, Leni Stokes; several nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends.

So sorry for your loss, Jack and Deane were members of the chorus back when, now they are both gone on to "sing with the angels"
