

Edward A. Stewart, Sr. known by everyone as "Buddy" died at his home on June 19, 2013. Born: November 3, 1922 Died: June 19, 2013 He was born in Brookhaven, Georgia on November 3, 1922 living his life of over 90 years in the same small neighborhood. After attending Georgia Tech, He served in the US Army during the Korean War and World War II achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. While serving his country he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the American Service Medal, a World War II Victory Medal and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He continued his service to our country serving 30 years in the US Army Reserve. He Retired from the Veteran's Administration Hospital after serving 30 years as a Dental Technician. He was a member of what is known as "The Greatest Generation". Buddy loved to do carpentry and home remodeling for family and friends constantly adding space to the house he built 64 years ago to accommodate his growing family of 4 sons and 1 daughter. He also enjoyed watching large projects being constructed. Many a Sunday afternoon was spent driving along a dirt construction project which is now I-285. He was a Boy Scout leader and a youth baseball coach. He was an ordained Deacon and an active member of Briarcliff Baptist Church. Every Sunday morning He looked forward to coffee and cookies with his friends in the Corbett Haden Sunday School class. Proceeded in death: Wife of nearly 60 years: Gladys Pruitt Stewart Father: Floyd Oscar Stewart Mother: Ola Mae Stewart Brother: Floyd Stewart Sisters: Claudine Burtz, Mary Braddock Granddaughter: Brooke Elizabeth Stewart Survivors: Brother: William "Billy" Stewart and Sister: Lou Alice McGehee Sons: Edward Stewart, Jr (Reba), Goldon "Skip" Stewart (Karen), Jimmy Stewart (Beth), Jeffrey Stewart (Debbie) and Daughter: Wanda Chalkley (Scott). Grandchildren: Charlie Wood, Teresa Morrow, Trudy Brown, Larry Wright, Cathy Stewart Whaley, Meredith Stewart, Sarah Stewart, Jacob Stewart, Justin Stewart, Joshua Stewart. 13 Great-Grandchildren and 14 Great great Grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 22 at 1 o'clock at Oglethorpe Hill Chapel. Interment White Chapel Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 to 1 at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30319.
