

She was preceded by her loving husband of 41 years, James Gabriel Lewis (1995), and dear grandchild, David Gabriel Pittman (1993). Shirley and James are survived by three adoring children: James Lewis (Lee), Joanne Chambers (Dale) and Jeannette Pittman (David) and seven grandchildren: Austin Lewis (Brittany), Anne Farhi (Yassine), Hudson Lewis, Stephen Chambers, Spencer Chambers (Ashley), Amanda Pittman, and James Pittman, along with one great-grandchild, Noah Farhi.
Born on August 29, 1929 in Niagara Falls, NY to Michael and Ann Tuttle, Shirley, as she was affectionately known, attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Stella Niagara High School where she held the title of “Prom Queen.” Ever spirited, Shirley proposed to her boyfriend, James Gabriel Lewis, whom she met at church and Jim and Shirley were married on June 12, 1954, at the Sacred Heart Church. Together, Shirley and her husband Jim helped to establish the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Stone Mountain, GA. Shirley was a homemaker and enjoyed volunteering at polling stations during political campaigns, and providing meals for “meals on wheels” services to those in need. Shirley worked diligently alongside her son, James Lewis, at Golden Key International Society for more than 20 years. She had many interests, including playing bridge, playing canasta, square dancing, clogging, exercising and most important, attending daily Mass at St. James Catholic Church in McDonough.
Shirley will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving and nurturing mother and grandmother, and a dear, sweet friend.
Memorial services will take place with a viewing at the H.M. Patterson & Sons Funeral Home, 1020 Spring Street NW Atlanta, GA 30309 on Thursday, February 9, 2017, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10th at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass at The Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Road, NE Atlanta, Georgia 30305, with the Rev. Msgr. Francis McNamee and with Principal Celebrant Rev. John Kieran, Concelebrant. A reception will follow the Mass held at Kenny Hall located at the Cathedral. Burial will be held on Friday after the reception at Fairview Memorial Gardens, 164 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
