

Elayne Frances Bauman Cowart passed away peacefully on November 6, 2014 a month before her 95th birthday. She was born on December 14, 1919 in Hustisford, Wisconsin the eldest of three children to Dr. Oliver Henry and Frances Kloeden Bauman. She grew up in Wabeno, Wisconsin where she was salutatorian of her high school senior class. She graduated from Wausaw Institute where she majored in English and went to work as an Executive Secretary at the Gilbert Paper Company. In 1945, Elayne married Charles G. Cowart and, after living in Jacksonville, Florida and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, they settled in Atlanta in 1953. They enjoyed almost fifty years of marriage until his death in 1995.
Elayne was a member of Northside Methodist Church for nearly sixty years where she was an active member of the Fellowship Sunday School class, United Methodist Women, the choir and the bellringers. A cross country skier growing up, she enjoyed playing tennis well into her sixties. Elayne also enjoyed playing bridge, travel and the beach, but most of all her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Elayne was predeceased by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Oliver Henry Bauman, her sister Ione Bauman Lackey, her brother Oliver Henry Bauman, Jr. and her husband Charles Geiger Cowart. She is survived by her daughter Anne C. Kibler, her son-in-law Frank M. Kibler, Jr., her granddaughters Caroline Marie Kibler, Laura Kibler Crim and her husband Robert Claiborne Crim, Jr. and her three great-grandchildren Robert Claiborne Crim, III, Charles McClintic Crim and Caroline Wallace Crim.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Northside United Methodist Church at 2 o’clock, with Dr. Gil Watson officiating. There will be a reception at the church following the service.
