Elgin Fleming MacConnell, 89, of Atlanta, Georgia, died September 30, 2012. Mr. MacConnell was a Veteran of WWII, graduated from Allegheny College and New York University and retired from Oglethorpe University with 34 years of dedicated service. Survivors include his wife, Muriel Holland MacConnell; nieces and nephews, Nan Witherington Lindsey (Rickey); Kyle Witherington; Katie Witherington Cooley (Wayne); Jill Witherington Stanley (Irby); Lee MacConnell Wilson (Anne); friend, Ellen McKinnis and while having no children of their own, over the years they were loving parents to 13 boxers. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 3 at 3 o’clock at Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church with a reception following the service. Those desiring may make contributions to the local humane society or Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church.
