passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Early will be deeply missed by everyone, especially his family; wife, Susanne Faber Muntzing; three
children, Erin (Richard) Richmond, Sarah (Zach) Riggle and Lily (Luke) Lancaster; two grandchildren,
Simon and Nathan Richmond; sisters, Elaine Lantz, Eleanor (Steve) Collins.
Since moving to Atlanta in 1970s, Early balanced his time impressively between running a small
business, being a loving father and grandaddy, a devoted husband, coaching soccer, and being an active
community member. Betting on sports during weekly breakfasts with his friends, spending time around
the house gardening, enjoying all New York City has to offer, and traveling the world, are only a few
examples of what was a very full life.
Throughout the challenges of the recent days, one thing has become abundantly clear, Early created
community. From Harrisonburg, Virginia to New York, Atlanta, and everywhere in between, he
maintained fierce friendships. Those who knew him, immediately loved him. He was the moral compass
and steady force for so many throughout his life. He always thought of everyone before himself.
The Muntzing family will celebrate Early on Sunday, December 9th at 2pm at the Georgia Public
Broadcasting Atrium, 260 14th Street NW Atlanta, GA 30318.
The family wishes to thank the medical staff from the Marcus Stroke & Neuroscience Center at Grady
Memorial Hospital and the firefighters at Fire Station #9 for their tireless efforts and kindness in a time
of deep pain.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to Habitat
for Humanity Atlanta, 824 Memorial Drive SE, Atlanta, GA 303016 or the Marcus Stroke & Neuroscience Center
via the Grady Health Foundation, 191 Peachtree Street NE, Suite 820, Atlanta, GA 30303.
