It is with profound sadness and immeasurable love that we announce the passing of Eugene “Gene” Paul Shatlock, Jr., on July 3, 2026, at the age of 69. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his beloved wife and children.
Born on April 30, 1957, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Eugene Sr. and Isabelle Shatlock, Gene lived a life defined by faith, integrity, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor whose kindness, humor, wisdom, and authenticity left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Gene earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and Business Administration from Duquesne University and went on to build an extraordinary 42-year career in the cable industry. Respected nationwide for his leadership and dedication, he concluded his distinguished career as Senior Vice President of Customer Experience for Comcast Cable’s Central Division.
Above all else, Gene treasured his family. He found joy in sharing meals, celebrating milestones, offering guidance, and creating memories with those he loved. He was the steady voice of encouragement and the person whose presence made every gathering brighter. Together, Gene and his family enjoyed a lifetime of travel and adventure, experiences he cherished because they were shared with the people closest to his heart.
In retirement, Gene enthusiastically embraced what he called his “Phase Two.” An avid poker player, he became a familiar face at the Atlanta Poker Club, earning numerous tournament victories and final table appearances. He approached the game as he approached life: with patience, thoughtfulness, competitiveness, and good humor.
Gene also delighted in life’s simple pleasures. He never turned down a sweet treat, took pride in enjoying “ultimate dinners,” and loved bringing people together around the table. His generosity was boundless, his stories memorable, and his laughter contagious.
A man of deep faith, Gene led by example through humility, compassion, honesty, and selfless love. He taught those around him the importance of hard work, family, and treating others with dignity and respect.
Gene will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched.
Gene is preceded by his loving parents.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Joanne Shatlock; his children, Eugene (Julia) Shatlock III, Caitlyn (Kenneth) Mueller, and William (Mallory) Shatlock; grandchildren Eloise and Jovi Mueller; sisters Isabelle Shatlock and Susan DiTommaso; brother Paul (Nancy) Shatlock; sisters-in-law Suzanne Romeo and Jane (Christopher) Webb; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful furry companions, Shaka, Sami, Scout, and Champion.
