

It is with great sorrow to announce the passing of Geoff Underwood on September 3, 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 48 resulting from a spontaneous aneurism while traveling to work. Geoff is survived by his wife Heidi and children, Kaylee (8) and Reece (6), his parents Millard and Julie Underwood of Mt. Lebanon, PA, sister and brother-in-law Kim Underwood and Rob Neubauer. Geoff was born on December 5, 1966 in Denver, CO and grew up in Mt. Lebanon, PA. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1985. During his junior and senior years, he played tackle on his football team, where they won the division title. From there, he attended Middlebury College in Vermont which included a study abroad program in Mainz, Germany and graduated in 1989 with degrees in Chemistry and German. He went on to receive his Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Georgia Technical Institute in 1998. Geoff and Heidi met 20 years ago and spent over 13 years of marriage together where they enjoyed traveling, skiing, entertaining friends and most importantly, establishing a family and spending time with their two children. Geoff had many talents. He had a particular passion and flair for gourmet cooking and liked to express his love towards family and friends by regularly preparing exquisite meals for all to enjoy. He also brewed award winning beers that that he crafted from homegrown hops. Geoff was an avid skier and he passed the passion of the sport to his family as they traveled to Colorado and Utah each ski season. Weekends were filled with weekly rides with his biking group and fostering his children’s love for soccer. Geoff spent 25 years employed by Solvay Specialty Polymers, Inc. in Alpharetta GA, working in the field of research and development. He is remembered as a talented yet humble colleague that was instrumental in advancing the company’s polymeric based products. During his tenure, he had also established several patents in his name to further the application of polymers. Visitation is September 9th at 2:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 3:00 at H.M Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill Chapel at 4550 Peachtree NE, Brookhaven, Georgia, 30319. We would like to thank the many friends that have extended prayers and support to our family as we say goodbye to our beloved Geoff.
