

Dr. Neumann, 87, died Feb. 3, 2012, at his home in Decatur, GA. Born July 15, 1924, Minneapolis, MN. He was a proud WWII veteran serving in Army 513th Signal Company, 13th Airborne Division in the European theater. Graduated from St. Thomas College (University of St. Thomas) St. Paul 1947. Earned doctoral degree from University of California, Berkeley 1950.
Dr. Neumann taught at Northwestern University 1950-1956 and Georgia Institute of Technology 1956-1992, where he was a professor of chemistry. Named professor emeritus 1993. He was a member of the Serra Club and served actively at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Mary Neumann; sister, Mary Neumann Volp; brother-in-law, Clarence Volp; and stepmother, Olive Wilson Neumann. Survived by his sister, Anne (Arnold) Weimerskirch, three nephews, seven nieces, and their families.
Visitation 6-8 p.m. Friday Feb. 10, with 7 p.m. rosary, at H.M. Patterson & Son Mortuary, 1020 Spring St., Atlanta. Mass of Christian Burial noon Saturday at Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 353 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta. Per Henry’s wishes, burial will be in Minneapolis Feb. 18.
