Horace Dwight Mathews of Peachtree Corners died September 8, 2013, at age 69. He was born in Lexington, GA, on August 5, 1944 to the late Richmond Horace Mathews and Barbara Helen Furcron Mathews. Dwight attended North Georgia College for two years, and graduated with BBA and MAcc degrees from the University of Georgia. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Army for two years, and was honorably discharged in 1971. Dwight had a 40-year career in public accounting with Deloitte, becoming a partner in 1979. He managed the Atlanta audit practice for 14 years, served as National Audit Partner for two industries, was a member of the firm’s National Audit Management Committee, and served as Professional Practice Director in Atlanta/Birmingham. He actively served clients throughout his career as partner, serving as Lead Client Service Partner for large clients such as Cox Enterprises, Bass Hotels & Resorts, John H. Harland Company, First Financial Management Corporation, and United Parcel Service. Active in community service, he was past President of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Nature Conservancy of Georgia, member of Leadership Atlanta and Leadership Gwinnett, board member and Finance and Audit Committee chair of North Georgia College and State University Foundation, board member of United Way of Metro Atlanta, and member of the University of Georgia School of Accounting Advisory Council. Dwight was a faithful servant of his Lord, and actively served on various church finance committees throughout his Christian life. He was a quiet man whose actions needed no words, and a man of integrity whose generosity knew no bounds. He was a loving son, husband, son in law, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor to many. He was respected by all who knew him. Dwight is survived by his wife of 45 years, Frances Virginia Lee Mathews, daughter Julie [Raymond] Spencer, son Richmond [Jocelyn] Mathews, and grandchildren William Mathews, Grant Mathews, Cole Spencer, and Elizabeth Mathews. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 1:30 PM at Peachtree Corners Baptist Church.
