India Pickron Klein, 73 of Atlanta died September 26, 2018. Born March 11, 1945 in Blakely, Georgia to Lamar and Madge Whitehead Pickron, India graduated Miller County High School (MCHS) with honors in 1963. She had a curiosity to learn and she was a member of numerous academic high school clubs such as Beta Club, a reporter for the high school, paper staff business manager, the student council, and was honored as Junior Marshall.
India’s beauty inside and out showed at an early age becoming Homecoming Queen, Miss Miller County High School class favorite, FFA (Farmer’s club) Sweetheart, and Miss Colquitt’s first runner up in Colquitt’s beauty pageant. India showed her artistic talent staring in MCHS’s Junior and Senior High School Plays. She was a talented majorette for the band of which she also served as sec-treasurer. She had a beautiful voice and was given the honor of singing at her high school’s graduation. India grew up Christian and served as Vice President and President of her high school’s Christian organization. India attended Gulf Park College (a women’s finishing school) and then went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Georgia in 1968. During college India was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. Upon graduation from UGA, India attended John Marshall Law School. She was in the top of her class and half a year away from completing law school when she met Paul Klein, the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with, start a family with and has been married to since. In 1978, they were joined at Ahavath Achim synagogue. A year later their daughter, Dana, was born.
Throughout life, India enjoyed singing, playing the piano, riding horses, and thrived in teaching these passions to her daughter. She had a huge heart and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and friend. Always giving to others, India donated her time, home, and funds to numerous charities (i.e. Circle for Children, Freedoms Foundation, Pro-Mozart Society, the Jewish Home, etc) throughout her life before becoming ill. Despite the difficulties she faced physically with her illness, India never lost her sense of humor, loving spirit, or charming personality. In March 2017, for India’s birthday, three of her best friends from high school in Colquitt, GA (Elaine, Kay, and Bonnie) came up to her home in Atlanta to celebrate what ended up being her last birthday. She greatly enjoyed this surprise and everyone had a good time retelling stories and looking through old photos. They were thrilled that they were able to have a girls’ weekend and spend that special day with her. India was loved by all of her nurses and caregivers, even their young children. By the time of her death, she had an entire wall filled with artwork from these children, whom she’d grown to love too. She will be missed by all. Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her husband, Paul S. Klein, daughter, Dana A. Klein, brother Samuel Pickron Jr, niece, Lacey Pickron Cadden, nephew, Marty Pickron.
