
Jake Tucker was born December 10, 1924 in the Donaldson Family home on 12th street in downtown Atlanta, the youngest son of Pearl Edward Tucker and Bonnie Donaldson Tucker. As a child growing up in Atlanta he played at Piedmont Park and attended Boys High. He served his country proudly during WWII in the US Army in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Jake returned to Atlanta and married Annie Laurie Brand of Marietta, Georgia. He graduated from Emory University with a BA in Education and History in 1949. In October 1984, he retired after 34 years of service with the US Postal Service. Jake was a member of the Emory Alumni Association, the Georgia Genealogical Society, and a Master Mason.
Jake was a founding member of the Brookhaven Baptist Church, and was active there for many years. He was a deacon, an usher, a Sunday–school teacher, and training union director. In his later years, he sang with the Senior Choir.
Jake enjoyed tracing the ancestry of his family, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Olsen.
Mr. Tucker passed away peacefully on November, 13, 2010 and will be missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his middle son, Jacob H. Tucker, Jr. (Jack). He is survived by his wife, Annie Laurie, sons, Paul and Phillip, daughter’s-in-law Ruth Ann Tucker, Leise Tucker, and Linda Bridgewater. His grandchildren are Jessica Corvi, Marshall Tucker, and Mary Ann Redmond. He is also survived by three great grandsons, Matthew and Tristen Redmond, and Dominic Corvi, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday November 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Tucker will be laid to rest at Peachtree Memorial Park in Norcross, GA. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
