.James P. Buff, aged 72, of Dunwoody, GA, died on Sunday, November 1, 2015, surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. Jim was born on November 1, 1943 in Effingham, IL to John S. and Mildred R. (Vondenbosch) Buff. He married his devoted wife of 47 years, Mary Ann (Wolfe), on August 24, 1968 in Aurora, IL. Jim was a 1961 graduate of Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, IL and a 1965 graduate of Loras College in Dubuque, IA. He also earned a Master of Banking Administration from University of Wisconsin in 1978 and a Master of Business Administration from Duke University in 1985. From 1965–67, Jim served at Headquarters, U.S. Army Europe in Heidelberg, Germany. Jim started and ended his 35-year career with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, U.S. Department of Treasury. He began federal service as an assistant national bank examiner in 1965 and retired in 2000 as the Director for Administration, Southeastern Region. Following his retirement, Jim traveled extensively across the globe and volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul Society, All Saints Catholic Church, Dunwoody, GA.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann; his five children, Ann (Geoffrey Boyer) Buff of Nairobi, Kenya, Tony (Keri) Buff of Bowling Green, OH, Chris (Anoop) Gupta of Seattle, WA, Julie (Andrew) Walter of Atlanta, GA, and Amy (Mark) Carek of Gahanna, OH; his 10 grandchildren, Matthew and Aaron Boyer, Scotty, Max and Mia Buff, Sabrina Gupta, Gretchen and Jacob Walter, and George and Mario Carek; his mother, Mildred Buff, who celebrated her 101st birthday in October, of Effingham, IL; and two siblings, Frances Buff of Effingham, IL and William (Glenna) Buff of Somerville, TN. Mr. Buff was preceded in death by his father, John Buff in 2006.
Father Bill Hao will officiate the Funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 9, at All Saints Catholic Church, 2443 Mount Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338. The visitation will be from 4–7 p.m. with the rosary at 6 p.m. on Sunday, 8 November at H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Rd, Brookhaven, GA 30319. The burial will be scheduled at a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
