

James Gilmore Coulter, age 87, passed away on October 4, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father Franklin Pierce Coulter, mother Zoe Harvey Coulter, his beloved wife, Anna Coulter, and sister, Jane Coulter Cain. He is survived by his three children, Bob Coulter (Carol), Beth Ann Newton (Kyle), and Franklin Coulter (Cathy); and five grandchildren, Kristen Linthicum (Will), Maggie Newton, Jay Newton, Brad Coulter (Sarah), and Kevin Coulter.
From Brackenridge, Pa., Jim graduated from West Liberty University in 1952, where he was the starting defensive end on the 1949 and 1950 football teams. He was inducted into West Liberty’s Football Hall of Fame in 1997. Following his graduation, Jim entered the U.S. Air Force, where he served with distinction in the Far East, earning the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. After his four-year tour of duty, he began a 34-year career with PPG Industries, which ended with his retirement in 1990. He and Anna then established a manufacturer’s representative firm, which sold glass-related products in six southeastern states.
Jim and Anna married in 1957 and moved their family to Atlanta in 1972. They joined Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church, which quickly became their Atlanta family and community. Throughout his retirement, Jim was an active volunteer at OPC. He also was an engaged grandfather and a passionate fan of his grandchildren’s sports teams.
A service to celebrate Jim and Anna’s lives will take place on November 17th at 11:00 at Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church
