With such depth of sadness, our family says goodbye to our precious son of Jim and Lyn Hansberger, beloved sister of Yancey Hansberger Snavely, and father of Jim III and Hill Hansberger, who deeply loved their Dad and were cherished in return. While the family is aching, we are grateful for so many memories.
Jim Jr. was known to have a wonderful sense of humor and a high level of intellect, a unique and special combination of kindness and cleverness. He had many friends and loved to travel to the West and the outdoors, kayaking in particular, and loved family time in Sea Island.
Jim excelled in running even while very young. He ran Peachtree Road races and others even before high school, where he then ran cross country at The Lovett School, and weightlifting, and was a serious student of WWII history, music, and his dear Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Bear.
Jim graduated from Lovett and the University of Georgia Business School, where he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity, and studied abroad in Innsbruck, Austria.
Such a life- a young man, like a burning candle, snuffed out far before its time - with a legacy of treasured memories and decades of dreams…”being rooted and established in love... and power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3: 17-19).
And so, the family and friends now come to the Land of Beginning Again- the generativity of life, rebirth, faith, and hope. Nothing is impossible with God. “Forgetting these things which are behind and reaching forth unto those which are before, I press on toward the mark for the prize of the upward calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3: 13-14).
We miss and love you, Jim.
“They shall hunger nor thirst no more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor heat.
For the Lamb in the midst of the throne shall feed them and lead them unto living fountains of water: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes” (Revelation 7:16-17).
Memorial services will be held at Peachtree Road Methodist Church on Thursday, October 22nd at 2 pm.
