James (Bud) Malsbary, age 81, passed away January 24, 2015. He was born to Louise and James Malsbary on October 14, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann Keith Malsbary, son, Richard Malsbary (Tammy), daughter, Jean Calvert (Mark), grandchildren, Emily Kraft (Jeffrey), Kirstin Calvert, and Daniel Calvert, great-grandchildren, Madelyn Kraft and Mason Kraft, and sister, Louise Watkins. He grew up in Glendale, Missouri and attended Kirkwood High School, graduating from Purdue University, where he was active in the Purdue Drill Team. He intended to make the Army his career, but a knee injury curtailed that career and, instead, he spent 41 years working for the Boy Scouts of America, in Tennessee, Florida, and Atlanta. He also served 3 years as a scout district executive in England, serving American military dependents. Bud was active in square dancing for 25 years and was president of the Druid Hills Square Dance Club and the Metro Atlanta Square Dancers Association. He was also active in Happy Tails Pet Assisted Therapy. He was president of Life Enrichment Services, a member of the choir at Clairmont Presbyterian Church, a courtesy cart driver for DeKalb Medical, and a volunteer at the Norcross Co-op. Bud spent many years traveling and camping, and was an avid collector of model trains. He also made beautiful quilts and counted-cross stitch pieces, collected stamps and worked on genealogy. He was a kind, dependable man with a mischievous sense of humor, who loved his family and his friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 am at H. M. Patterson Oglethorpe, with visitation beforehand at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations to the Atlanta Area Council Boy Scouts of America, 1800 Circle 75 Pkwy, Atlanta, Ga. or to Special Olympics are requested.
