Jimmy and I flew to Bimini with Jonathan Bean and Earl McMillen, in Earl's V-Tail Bonanza, back in 1986 or so. We all had an unbelievable time, but as happens often, the red headed kid was picked on. Jimmy picked up on this and was ready to  "whoop" all that were tough on me. I don't know if I picked up on the significance then, but I do today....I will never forget it. Jimmy was a very kind and sensitive man. I will miss his spirit greatly.

When I think of our friend Jimmy, you can't help but smile and laugh about all the fun times. Atlanta will never be the same. I'm sure there are tire tracks left behind. My prayers are with Mrs. Mitchell, my dear friend John O and Beverly. The Mitchell family played a huge part in my life. I am so saddened and sorry for your loss.

I know Jimmy is riding around in a solid gold 442. He taught me all there is to know about that car. I will miss him.

john, you and your family and Mrs. Beverly are in out thoughts and prayers.  I am sorry we couldn't be there but know that "jimmy boy's" family here on St. Simons at Golden Isles Realty are with you in spirit.  Jimmy was such a special soul that we all grew to love. DJ, I and Clarke were just talking about him today.  A slow day in the office only had about 4 calls in one day.  Most of the time it was three times that amount, he would pick between the three of us to talk about his latest & greatest ideas and just thoughts.  When DJ and I lost our dog Gracie several weeks ago he was the first one to lend a shoulder because he knew what we were feeling.  He even offered to bring another weimaraner down from Atlanta if we wanted another one!  he will be greatly missed and every time I walk into Lazy Daze or Lazy Nites I will remember his sweet soul!  if Maggie gets to be too much just let us know because she always will have a home down here on st. simons. love to you all and hope to see you all soon!

My sympathies go out to the Mitchell Family. As teenagers, we shared fast cars, Chastain Park Shenanigans and having a blast in Buckhead with many here. You will be missed Jimmy!

After being at the funeral today you can Jimmy will be sorely missed by family and friends. God bless to his mother and family.

Jimmy came to Oglethorpe and GA Eta at a critical time in its history.  His enthusiasm was contagious and helped the chapter in rebuilding efforts.  I'm sorry to hear of his passing and pray for his family and close friends in this time of sorrow.

Jim was a great guy, when ever I think of Jim, I think of a smile and a good word. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

From riding our bicycles as kids to driving our cars and motorcycles as adults, these memories will be cherished.  We recently reconnected and had a long talk about life. He was ALWAYS fun to be around and I will miss him.

Burt Reynolds was just an actor, Jim was the real deal.  Ladies man, stunt man, and Southern gentleman.  Jim could buy, sell, and drive a 442 like none other.  Jim's life was full of adventures that today's reality t.v. strives for.  Having known Jim for these last ten years, we consider him a great friend.  He called almost daily talking about cars, guns, politics and the latest wild idea he had.  We enjoyed spending time with him and Cali and then Maggie at St. Simon's.  We were truly blessed to have known him and will miss him greatly.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his mother, whom he loved dearly, and his family and long-time friends.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. He was a true original and made high school very entertaining.

Jimmy always had a warm smile when I saw him & it made me smile too.  He was a great guy and will be missed.

My dear friend, you knew more about W30s and 442s than the engineers at Hurst or Oldsmobile! And no VW bug was safe from you and me so long as we had the J.C. Whitney catalogue. We never quite mastered night fishing at Lanier, but I always thought we would have another chance at that. The South has lost one of her fine gentlemen. Peace be with you, Jimmy.

Jimmy, Was truly one of a kind. It would be impossible to count how many wonderful times we had together. He lived life to the fullest and was always great friend.

I was so sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing today from a fellow SAE brother.  It is nice that there is a forum to share the celebration of life from afar. There were so many facets to Jimmy's personality we got to know when he transferred to Oglethorpe from Mercer.

Today, I remember his incredible enthusiasm for our fraternity and the energy he brought to our house at a critical juncture as the chapter at Oglethorpe was rebuilding and reinventing itself.  That enthusiasm was infectious, and he even had his own signature dance, called "the Mitchell bop".  In looking back many years later, that energy and never say quit attitude helped define the chapter's brand and re-emergence in popularity which is still a trademark of the house some 30 years later. 

My condolences to the family, and I hope you know that he will be resting well in our chapter eternal.

Jim lived with my brothers and I on Adam St. in Macon, Georgia while attending Mercer University fall of 1981. It was a wonderful time and Jim and my brother Cole loved to drive fast and would race around town and half the time I ended up on the floor board thinking we were going to get killed. Jim could really handle a car and was an excellent driver. He was up to something everyday an it was always humorous. You knew he came from an outstanding and well mannered family from Atlanta by all his actions and signs of courtesy. He was a wonderful friend and was a faithful friend as well. Someone like Jim is so entertaining that the Lord wants him with him. Heaven is awful boring without men or boys like Jim who I know surround God. The original "Party Animal" will be missed by all who knew him.  Whenever he showed up on a Friday afternoon with a case in the back seat, for some reason I always heard the "Blues Brothers" theme in my head.  God Speed Jimmy.

So saddened by the news of Jim's passing. He was so much a part of our daily lives. He was my husband's best friend and they were like "brother's". They talked many times everyday without fail. I can't begin to imagine our lives without Jim. He taught me about true friendship and most of all how to laugh through all the difficulties in life. He had a huge heart and was a loyal friend. I will truly miss the talks and the love and laughter he brought to our lives. Jim will be in our hearts forever and will never be forgotten. Our prayers continue for his family and friends left behind. He will truly be missed!

As my SAE pledge trainer at Oglethorpe, Jimmy had a significant influence on my college life. There was never a dull moment with Jimmy! He will be missed.

Jim Mitchell was a great man that I was fortunate to be friends with. Jim was a man that had a ready smile and an adventurous drive.  My favorite experience with Jim was a 90 mile an hour 360 off Tatnall Park in Macon.
Not a better driver have I ever met.  Jim was also a  man that had a better heart for others and their needs tan even his own. I will miss his wise cracks that were always served with a  big smile.  See you on the Other side big Jim

The past three weeks have been so hard. It is truly hard to imagine my phone ringing and Jim not being at the other end of the line. Jim and I talked everyday, several times a day. We were always there for each other. Jim used to tell me I was "like a brother" to him and he was for me as well. He was truly my best friend. We shared many good times together. We worked on and off together for years and grew closer as time passed. We got each other through the "tough times" when they came. Jim was always there with his faithful dog "Cali" and then "Maggie" after "Cali" was gone. He was there again when I lost my own brother. Jim Knew how to make you laugh again and he was full of life. My mind is flooded with so many memories of times we shared. So many plans we made cut too short with his passing. His laughter and love of life was priceless. Words just can not describe how much he will be missed! Jim truly broke the mold on a true, loyal friend. Rest in peace my brother! Until we meet again, prayers for your family.

A beloved friend for many years, I will always remember his hearty laugh and boyish grin.  God speed you on your journey, old friend.

Jim used to always say that we were "brothers forever".  I have so many memories of our high school days and know that we all will be sharing them for just as long.  My most sincere thoughts toward the family.

Jim will be missed sorely - his calls about the next crazy idea, the next car to resurrect and always with such fervor and excitement.  And surely a great story to tie it all together to the old days. There'll never be another quite like Jim.

My daddy was always so crazy about Jimmy, and called him the "tire squealer" because he got a ticket for "excessive tire noise."  Imagine that!  I can't believe he is gone, but he certainly lived life to the fullest.  He was a great friend, and I will miss him and his exuberance for life.

I first met Jim and his dog Cali at the dog park. He had such a big heart for rescue dogs. We became instant friends. When Cali passed away he thought of getting a puppy. He heard a black Labrador stray had a litter and when he found out that no one was interested in adopting the mother- he decided to give the mother “Maggie” a new home. When you saw Jim, Maggie was always there by his side. His big smile, laughter, kindness, generosity, and friendship will be greatly missed.

Jimmy and I became "fast" friends at Northside Highschool in the 70's. We both had a passion for speedy cars and a life of fun! That friendship endured for over 30 years. He was one of the most "genuine" people I have ever had the privilege to know. He will be missed dearly.
