He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Deanna (Crosier) Speichinger; one sister, Joann Young of Reno, Nevada; daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Lawson “Trip” Cox III; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Keith Zgonc; and four grandchildren, Steven Zgonc, Lauren Cox, Leigh Zgonc and Rachel Cox, all of Kennesaw.
The youngest of seven children, Jim was born on July 9, 1938 in Yankton, South Dakota, to Peter and Laura (Kaser) Speichinger. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert, Lloyd, Melvin and Arnold; and sisters Marjorie Zink and Lorraine Mae Speichinger.
He graduated from Marquette University in 1960 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He later spent his entire professional career with PPG Industries in several cities, including Columbus, Ohio, Houston, Pittsburgh, Atlanta and Toronto before retiring in 1998.
Jim was a parishioner at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Atlanta, where he served as an usher and member of the financial council.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, October 3 at 2 o’clock at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 353 Peachtree Center Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30308. Interment will be conducted in a private ceremony with the family at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
