Jane Morris Bohanan

Jane Morris Bohanan, age 93, of Atlanta, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026. A lifelong Atlanta native, Jane was deeply connected to her community, her family, her friends, and the many people whose lives she touched throughout her remarkable life.

Jane attended Henry Grady High School and later graduated from the University of Georgia, where she was a proud member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. Her love of learning and her desire to help others led her to a fulfilling career in education. She taught in Atlanta at Morris Brandon Elementary School and also served in the Decatur and DeKalb County School Systems. She later retired as a paraprofessional from Peachtree Middle School in Dunwoody.

Jane treasured the relationships she built throughout her life and never lost sight of the importance of staying connected with those she loved. Each year, she looked forward to hosting her former Grady High School classmates, creating a special opportunity for old friends to gather, reminisce, and share memories together. She was also deeply committed to her community, taking an active role in neighborhood activities, school events, and the Nancy Creek Civic Association. Through her involvement, Jane continually sought to make her neighborhood a better place for those around her.

Music was another important part of Jane's life. She was a talented professional drummer, and from 1959 to 1962, her musical gifts carried her throughout the United States and Canada as a member of “The Coquettes,” an all-girl musical group that recorded with Columbia and MGM Records. A lifetime member of the Atlanta Musicians’ Union, Jane continued to share her love of music locally for many years, performing at weddings, special events, and festivals.

Jane was also a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, where she found great joy in serving others. She volunteered as a Sunday receptionist and lovingly photographed baptisms and flower dedications, preserving meaningful moments for families and the church community.

Those who knew Jane will remember her for her warmth, dedication, talent, and genuine love for the people around her. She lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind cherished memories that will continue to bring comfort and joy to those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Jane is survived by her husband, James O. Bohanan; her son, Scott Bohanan (Melanie); her daughter, Amy Krumnaker (Steve); her grandchildren, Andrew and Natalie Bohanan; her nephew, Robert Morris; and her cousin, John Dougherty.
