Jane C. Jerden
January 16, 1939 – May 6, 2018
Jane Jerden, 79, of Atlanta, Georgia, died on May 6th, 2018. Born in 1939 to Lamar and Wilma Cheely, Jane was a life-long resident of Atlanta, graduating from Northside High School and Emory University, with a degree in English. On June 1st, 1968, she married J.L. Jerden, her husband of 50 years. After teaching school in Florida and Georgia in the 1960s, Jane dedicated herself to raising a family and serving the Church. Jane was an accomplished Church musician, playing piano with youth choirs and serving as a ringer in the hand bell choir. She was also active with several charitable organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and helped established the Jane and J. L. Jerden Service Scholarship at Rhodes College in Memphis that provides aid to students who have demonstrated commitment to community service. Above all, Jane loved people, all kinds of people. She was an expert conversationalist and specialized in food and entertaining guests. She knew the art of listening, had a great sense of humor, a practical sensibility, and a knack for making genuine connections with people. Additionally, she and J.L. loved traveling with friends and family. Jane is survived by her children Susan Isakson (John), Jim Jerden (Monica), and Eddie Jerden (Ali), her grandchildren Janie Joyner, Jack and Riley Isakson, Sienna and Chloe Jerden, and Jacob and Owen Jerden. She is survived by her twin sister, Jeanne Hill, and her sister, Laura Cheely. She is also survived by, many nieces and nephews and family members, along with many dear, dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. Jerden, and her grandson, Charley Joyner.

Patterson & Son-Spring Hill Chapel at 1020 Spring Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30309. A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Sunday, May 13th at Northside Drive Baptist Church at 3100 Northside Drive, NW, Atlanta, GA 30305, followed by a reception at The Aberdeen, 2700 Paces Ferry Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30339.
