

Jane Johnson Marsden, age 86, of Atlanta, died Saturday, September 20. Born in Gallatin, TN, Mrs. Marsden was a longtime Atlanta resident. After growing up on her family’s farm in Tennessee, Mrs. Marsden attended Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA, graduating in 1950 with a degree in accounting. Although she began her career as one of the first women accountants at IBM, Jane spent the last 45 years as a renowned Atlanta interior designer and antique dealer. In addition to being recognized in the ADAC Hall of Fame, she was also a successful entrepreneur, as designer and developer of the Peachtree Decorative Arts Plaza that housed both her home and her antiques and interior design business. An avid gardener, she was a member of The Junior League of Atlanta and of the Capital City Club. Mrs. Marsden was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Desaix R. “Beans” Marsden, her parents Caroll and Mary Jane Johnson, and her brother Caroll Johnson Jr. She is survived by her four children and their families, Kay and Gary Gilpin of Gulf Shores, AL, D. Robert Jr. and Jill Marsden of Atlanta, Janie and Mike Willis of Atlanta, and Franke and Ann Marsden of Atlanta. Mrs. Marsden is also survived by her seven grandchildren. A private gravesite service will be held on Tuesday followed by a celebration of life reception at 6:30 p.m. at 2300 Peachtree Road in the penthouse.
