Jane Cleveland Niles (Mrs. George A. Niles), 92, of Atlanta died peacefully at her residence Sunday, December 14, 2014. Born February 7, 1922 in Elberton, Georgia, she was the only child of Grover Francis Cleveland and Nathleen Thornton Cleveland. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville with a degree in English. Not wishing to return to small town life, she moved to Atlanta and became a buyer for Davison's, which allowed her frequent and exciting trips to New York. The highlight of her life in Atlanta was meeting a handsome young physician from Griffin, Georgia, Captain George A. Niles, MD, who had just returned from 5 years serving in WWII as a general surgery medical officer in the Pacific. They married in June 1950 and enjoyed 45 wonderful years together before George's death in 1995. As the wife of a prominent OB/GYN at Piedmont Hospital, she was a past president and lifetime member of the Women's Auxiliary. She was a longtime member and past president of the Habersham Garden Club and was a member of the Piedmont Driving Club. She enjoyed over 50 years of fellowship at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church and was especially devoted to her friends in the Friday Morning Prayer Group. It was a great joy for her to see their three daughters married there: Sally to Beaumont Allen, and the twins, Jane to Dr. Trevor Woodhams and Andrea to Dr. William Jones. She was an engaged and loving grandmother to her four grandchildren: Sarah Allen Blais (Mrs. David Blais) and A. Beaumont Allen, both of New York, and Dr. Dena Woodhams and John Woodhams, both of Atlanta. In addition, she is survived by her great-grandson Harrison Blais. A memorial service will be held at 10 o'clock on Saturday, December 20, 2014 in the Chapel at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Rd, NW, Atlanta, Georgia.
