

Jean Martin Stone, 82, of Glenville, NC died on January 16, 2014. She is survived by her husband, Dr. H. Harlan Stone, her three sons Dr. John H. Stone of Verona, KY, Dr. William M. Stone of Scottsdale, AZ and Daniel C. Stone of Atlanta, GA., as well as 7 grandchildren. Jean was born and grew up in Atlanta, GA., the daughter of Dr. J. D. Martin, Jr. and Eloise Martin. She graduated from North Avenue Presbyterian School and attended Stratford College and worked in the medical photography department of Emory Hospital. She was active with many groups throughout her years including Briarmoor Manor Garden Club, Druid Hills Baptist Church, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, and the Children’s Civic Theater of Atlanta. Jean was appointed to the Governors Council for the Arts by then Governor Jimmy Carter. She devoted her artistic talents over the years by authoring a number of children’s short stories. Jean was a very wonderful and special lady who is loved by many.
Funeral Service will be Wednesday, January 22 at 11am at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 435 Peachtree Street, Atlanta GA. A reception will follow in the Church Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations go to the Stone Memorial Fund, Department of Surgery, University of South Carolina Medical School in Greenville.
