Joanne Hilliard Alexander

Joanne Alexander, 81, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015 after an extended illness. She was born in Leary, Georgia to Annie Laura and William Hilliard. She moved to Atlanta in 1950, and was married to Harold Dixon and lived in Atlanta for all her adult life. After a 45 year career in civil service, she retired as a budget analyst for the United States Army at Fort McPherson.

After retirement she occupied her time gardening, reading and spending time at the beach on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

She is survived by daughter and son in law, Val and Gene Hallman, daughter Yvonne Sightler, dear friend Keith Vandervelden, brother Bobby Giddens; grandchildren Bria Weiss (Aaron), Megan Smith (Jonathan) and Blaine Hallman and one great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Russell Alexander.

A memorial service will be held at H. M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 13. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Harden’s Chapel Cemetery in Lyons, Georgia at 1pm on Thursday, May 14.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the William Breman Jewish Home.
