Born in Atlanta, GA on July 10, 1951 to the late William and Jacqueline Beckett. John attended The Lovett School graduating in 1969. He went on to graduate in 1973 from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management. While at Georgia Tech he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
He began his extensive banking career at The First Bank of Chicago, and developed a reputation of excellence in consolidating Real Estate loan portfolios.
John’s greatest passion was reading and he found great joy in cooking for family and friends. He loved the outdoors especially whitewater rafting and was proud to be an organizing committee member of Atlanta’s notorious Ramblin’ Raft Race which served as an unofficial kickoff for summer from 1969-1980. In addition, he created many memories on family camping trips to North Carolina’s Standing Indian Mountain with the Buckhead Campers. His unique laugh and constant smile brightened the lives of everyone he touched.
John is survived by his beloved sons: John Beckett and wife Rebecca, Andrew and Parker Beckett all of Atlanta, GA, his brother William and wife Christine Beckett of Seattle, Washington, as well as a host of loving friends and extended family.
