John William Brent, 76, was born January 11, 1941 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to John Elford Brent and Paula Tillmann Brent. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and the UNC School of Law. For nearly forty years he practiced immigration law in Atlanta. As a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), he was a charter member of the Atlanta Chapter and its first president. For his service to the Catholic church, he was named a knight of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great. He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Melanie, his children Lara, Justin (Sylvia Sievers), Kyle (Heather), Colleen and his grandchildren Sienna, Jack, Anna, and Julia, his sister Susan O’Neil, brothers Peter and Paul, his Aunt Julaine Tillmann, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. The family will receive friends at H.M. Patterson and Son Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Rd. NE, Brookhaven, 6-8pm, on Sunday and the funeral mass will take place at St. Jude Catholic Church, 7171 Glenridge Dr, Sandy Springs on Monday at 11am. A reception will follow at the church and after the reception, interment will take place at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Emory Alzheimer Disease Research Center, 1762 Clifton Rd, NE. or a charity of your choice.
