

John was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, to John and Margaret (Peggy) Foxworth on August 9, 1945. He graduated from Broughton High School in Raleigh in 1964 and attended N.C. State University in Raleigh. He worked as a cameraman and then a director for the local public broadcasting company, WUNC, for several years and also served in the National Guard.
In the early 1970s, John worked for Safeguard Business Systems. In 1976, he began a long and successful sales management career with The Relizon Company/Workflow One. In 1991, he was awarded the company’s highest achievement honor, the R.H. Grant Award. At that time, he had already earned five President’s Clubs and nine 300 Clubs. John retired from full-time employment in 2011 and worked as a part-time travel consultant for All Points Travel Connections until the time of his death.
In 1987, John married Sandra (Sandy) Geist Thompson. They shared family, life, and their love of travel for 39 years. It was during one of their many international trips that John enjoyed his final days. John also loved photography, cooking on his grill, working out, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, and especially spending time with family and friends.
John was a volunteer for the DeKalb County Special Olympics for many years and served as a board member. He was a member of the homeowners’ association board for his neighborhood and on the board for the American Society of Travel Advisors Atlanta Chapter.
He was an active, long-time member of the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta, where he was an usher for over 25 years and worked as a volunteer for their Peachtree Road Farmers Market.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Foxworth. He is survived by his wife, Sandy; two daughters: Allison Crews (Jimmy) and Britt Foxworth (Robin Shores); brothers: Robert Foxworth and Richard Foxworth (Debbie); five grandchildren: Jessica Gardner (Weston), Alanna Crews (Jeff Ekman), Hannah Crews, Elissa Crews, and Josiah Crews; and eight great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service for John at the Cathedral of St. Philip, Atlanta, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, with interment of his ashes in the Cathedral Memorial Garden and a reception to follow in Child Hall.
