John Richard Kateen, 92, of Cumming, GA, formerly of Atlanta, GA, entered into the fullness of Life Eternal on Thursday, April 30, 2026. He was born and raised in Passaic, NJ, to the late John F. Kateen and Margaret Florence (Fedor) Kateen.
John was a strong man of faith and an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church, where he served in numerous roles over the years, including Congregational President, Elder, and Treasurer.
In 1963, John met and married his beloved wife, Arlene Valentine, and together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. He and Arlene raised four children: Linda Jones, Cae Hamilton, Owen Lecklider, and Murray Lecklider, all of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
John proudly served in the United States Army, after which he graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. For over 27 years, he worked as a General Manager for numerous clubs. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working in residential real estate.
A funeral service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church, 4000 Roswell Road, Atlanta, GA, at 1:00 p.m. on May 15. Interment will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
