John Joseph Keegan of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on September 12, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on May 14, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, John lived a life defined by faith, family, and an endless supply of warmth for everyone who crossed his path.
John's story was one shaped by family, and friends who became family, above all else. His marriage to his beloved wife, Anne, anchored everything that followed. Together they welcomed their children, Jack and Meara, and John embraced fatherhood with the same generosity of spirit that defined him in every other part of his life. In time, he was blessed with a loving son and daughter-in-law, and later with grandchildren. Few things brought him greater joy than watching them grow. He treasured his deep and plentiful friendships and gave of himself freely to those he held dear.
Those who knew John knew his kindness first. He was a man who made people feel at home, quite literally; visitors to his house could count on a warm welcome and a glass that never seemed to empty. His sense of humor was quick and easy, and it had a way of putting everyone around him at ease. He found joy in the simple things, whether it was a good round of golf, a quiet afternoon out on the deck, or, above all, time spent surrounded by the people he loved.
At the center of it all was John's devout Catholic faith, which guided him in everything he did and gave shape and meaning to his days.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Anne Hogan Keegan; his son, Jack Keegan, daughter-in-law, Madeline Keegan, and their child, Siobhan; his daughter, Meara Keegan Stahley, son-in-law, Austin Stahley, and their children, Declan, Cameron, and Maeve. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bridget and Francis Keegan, and his brother, Frank Keegan.
A funeral Mass will be held on September 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Brookhaven, Georgia, with his cousin, Fr. Brendan O'Sullivan, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation and Missionary Society of St. Columban (Omaha, Nebraska).
