John “Johnny” Oatley Stanford, a resident of Atlanta, died on Monday, December 17. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 28, 1948 to James Burton Stanford and Mary Hill Oatley Stanford, both now deceased. Johnny is survived by his wife, Beth Feely Stanford; son, John Oatley Stanford, Jr. (Anne); daughter, Molly Stanford Hudson (Richard); grandchildren Elizabeth Anne Stanford and Richard Brady Hudson; and mother-in-law Dr. Elizabeth Feely, all of Atlanta. He is also survived by his brothers the Reverend James Burton Stanford, of Birmingham, AL, and Larry Lamar Stanford of McDonough, GA, and several aunts and cousins. An Atlanta native, Johnny achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended Decatur High School and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in Business Administration from Presbyterian College, Clinton, South Carolina, in the class of 1970, where he served in ROTC and was a member of the Varsity Football Team. Johnny went on to earn his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Georgia in 1972. He was the CEO of John Oatley Hardware, a family-owned business established by his grandfather, where he enjoyed a successful career that spanned over three decades. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. Johnny was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and his dog Deacon. He loved dancing to beach music, watching Georgia Tech football, and traveling the world with his wife Beth. Johnny was an exemplary husband and father and a steadfast, loyal presence to his friends and family. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, where he was actively involved. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 22 at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, 1328 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30309 and will be conducted by Reverend Craig N. Goodrich. A brief reception will follow in Fifield Hall.
