
John (Jack) Rowland Wyant passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born in Greensboro, NC on August 23, 1915. The son of William Keblinger Wyant, Sr. and Rose Mary Homan Wyant; he was loved by all. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years, Louise Battey Wyant, and one brother, William K. Wyant, Jr. He is survived by his children: daughter, Louise Wyant Morgenson and her husband Eric of Virginia Beach, VA; son, John R. Wyant, M.D. and his children Michelle Ann, John Wallace, Christopher, David and their mother Michelle W. Wyant; son, Edward Dugas Wyant of Brentwood, TN, wife Cece and their children, Andrew and Kathleen Louise; and his third son, William Keblinger Wyant and his wife, Susan. His beloved wife of 13 years, Lillian Roberts Deakins Wyant and her two daughters: Lillian Clarke, Dorothy Chandler and her husband Frank also grieve his passing and will miss his cheerful demeanor. He is also survived by two brothers: Dominique Homan Wyant of Atlanta, GA and Joseph Anderson Wyant, Sr. of Savannah, GA. Mr. Wyant graduated from Boys’ High and from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering.
An Army Captain in World War II serving under General George Patton in command of the 501st Ordinance Heavy Maintenance Company (Tank) at the Battle of the Bulge, he fought valiantly for his country. After the war ended, he and his father founded Wyant and Sons Paper Company. His final position in the paper business was with Sloan Paper Company. Mr. Wyant was a devout Roman Catholic and lifetime member of the Cathedral of Christ the King. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, American Legion Post 134, the Ansley Golf Club, the Society of Colonial Wars and an avid bridge player and golfer. He was a true gentleman, husband, father and friend to all.
A memorial service and Mass celebrating his life will be held at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta, GA on Friday, the twenty-sixth of November at two o’clock in the afternoon. Interment will be in the Battey family plot in Westover Cemetery, Augusta, GA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Archdiocesan Counsel of Atlanta, 2050-C Chamblee Tucker Rd, Atlanta, GA 30341.
