JB Stamps, was born February 7th, 1928 in DeKalb County. As child of the Great Depression, JB came from little, yet, honorably built an incredible life for himself. As a young man growing up in East Atlanta, he graduated from Boys' High School and later attended the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia (Georgia State University). As adolescence faded, JB served his country in the US Army as Sergeant First Class in the Korean War. After returning home from war, JB and his best friend, John S. Jones Sr., found their livelihoods dredging sand from the bottom of the South River. JB, respectfully known as "The Sand Man", became the owner of the Stamps Sand Company where he worked every day until he rightfully retired at the age of 87. Established in 1952, the Stamps Sand Company is still in full swing on the infamous Chattahoochee River where it is operated by JB's two sons, Johnathon Britton Stamps III and John Clinton Stamps. JB lived a full life devoted to his faith and he did his best to live by His example and love all those who passed him by. To help aide his faith, JB was a founding member of Clairmont Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Ga., where he and his wife, Helen, practiced their faith together for over 60 years. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing JB knew he loved his family wholeheartedly. JB's life efforts went to making sure his loved ones knew their dreams were worth any failures. As a husband, father, brother, uncle, and best friend, JB lived fully through the simple pleasures of making memories with each and every one of his loved ones.

Above all, JB's love for his friends and family and loyalty to his faith was unsurpassed. Affectionately known as “Papa or Grand”, his love for life will forever continue through his beloved grand and great grandchildren.

"As you walk through heavens gates, we pray you find all your family, friends, and Georgie's along the way. You will be loved all the days we have without you."
