Josephine “Jo” Clarke Eden Massey was born on June 27, 1927, and passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, in Cumming, Georgia, at the age of 99. She was surrounded by her loving family until the very end and has now gone to be with the Lord and her beloved husband.
Josephine grew up in Gastonia, North Carolina, and was the daughter of Clarence Artope Eden and Josephine Tabitha Clarke. She was a graduate of Limestone College.
Throughout her life, Josephine shared her love of music with others. She taught music at Dunwoody Baptist Church, was a gifted piano and organ player, and spent many years singing in her church choir. Her greatest joy, however, was caring for her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Her love for Christ and her involvement in her church were central parts of her life.
Josephine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie Earl Massey Jr., and her brother, Clarence Artope Eden Jr.
She leaves behind her three children, Amelia (Amy) Eden Massey, Jonathan Edward Massey (Nila), and Michael Earl Massey (Marcia); her grandchildren, Bentli Faith Massey, Eden Maria Massey, Michelle Denise Massey, and Glenn William Massey; her brother, Harvey Clarke Eden; her sister, Leila Eden Evans; and many nieces and nephews.
Josephine will be remembered for her unwavering love of family, her deep faith, and the many lives she touched throughout her 99 years. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love that will continue through the generations.
Visitation will be held from 9:30–10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in the chapel at Wieuca Road Baptist Church, with funeral services beginning at 10:30 a.m. Josephine will be laid to rest at Arlington Memorial Park following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Josephine’s honor to the American Heart Association or Wieuca Road Baptist Church.
