

Kathryn (“Katie”) Heitzeberg Hutchison was born on March 24, 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri. Her parents were Edward J. and Lillian Heitzeberg. She grew up in Nashville and graduated from St. Bernard’s Catholic School and from Ward Belmont College.
She was married for 51 years to Joseph B. Hutchison until his death in 1991. Joe Hutchison was the managing partner of the eastern division of the Henry C. Beck Company in Atlanta for his entire career. Joe and Katie moved to Atlanta in 1940. They had six children, 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Katie Hutchison knew the names, birthdays, phone numbers, and addresses of all her progeny, their wives, and their husbands. Family was important to Katie Hutchison.
Katie Hutchison is survived by her sister, Sister Mary Lillian Heitzeberg; by her son, Joe, his wife Lyndall Barnes Hutchison, their two daughters, Samantha Hutchison and Celeta Hutchison Bettison, Celeta’s husband Jeff Bettison, and their children Aidan, Ben, and Kelsey; by her daughter Margaret Hatcher, her husband Bob Hatcher, Margaret’s children Gerry Hull and Peggy Hull Anderson, Peggy’s husband Jim Anderson, and Peggy’s children John and Willa; by her son Ed, his wife Margaret Brown Hutchison, their sons Ed Hutchison and David Hutchison, Ed’s son James, and Ed's wife Anne Smith Hutchison and their children Ryn, and Grace, David’s wife Mary Beth Farr Hutchison, and their children Mary Louise and Emma Frances; by her daughter Katie Brown, her husband Ivan Brown, Katie’s children Joseph Tufts, Cole Tufts, and John Tufts, Joseph’s wife Caitlin Fitzsimmons Tufts, their children Tres and Selah, John’s wife Christine Albright Tufts, and their son Henry; by her son Richard Hutchison, his wife Ginabeth Brown Hutchison, and their children Caroline and Phillips; by her daughter Elizabeth Rutschmann, Elizabeth’s son James Hampton, James’ wife Tomomi Hampton, and their son Coeus.
Katie is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, including Ed and Joan Heitzeberg, Joyce Wells, Margaret and Pat Craine, Susie Mayo, Raymond Pirtle Jr., Chip and Wanda Hutchison, Frank and Amy Hutchison, Wick and Laura Hutchison, and John Hutchison.
Katie was a member of the Junior League of Atlanta, the Forward Arts Foundation, the Atlanta Opera Board, the OLPH Auxiliary, the Planters Garden Club, the Piedmont Driving Club, the Capital City Club, and the Sacristy of the Cathedral of Christ the King. Katie also volunteered at the British War Relief Organization in 1942, the Veteran’s Hospital in Atlanta, St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the High Museum, and the Atlanta History Center. Most importantly, her children wish to warn those in heaven reading these words that Katie Hutchison is a party person!
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at H.M. Patterson & Son- Spring Hill. The Funeral Service will take place at the Cathedral of Christ the King on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 10:30am with a reception to follow at the parish hall. Interment will be at Arlington Memorial Park. Katie requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Catholic Relief Fund and the Atlanta Opera.
