After years of living with dementia, Kay Glore Swan, passed away in Atlanta, Georgia on January 11, 2022 and was finally freed of all of the challenges brought on by the disease. And although life with this disease was never easy, her kindness and sweet spirit, her gentle smile always shone through.
Kay was born in Atlanta in September of 1944 to Marguerite and Herbert Glore. After attending West Georgia College and working at Bellsouth, she gave birth to her much-loved children: her son Mark and daughter Nancy in Athens, Georgia. It was in the mid-80s that she began what would become a 30-year career with Belk. Her friendly and helpful personality made her a loyal and much-appreciated employee in the ladies clothing department.
Kay was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, and she gained much joy from her years as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels in Athens.
Kay’s passions were her son, daughter and significant other and their families. Her heart overflowed when she was surrounded by family. You could see the happiness on her face and hear the joy in her voice. Whether cheering on her children at swim meets, celebrating birthdays at Road Atlanta, rooting for the Atlanta Braves or Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, helping her granddaughters Easter egg hunt or traveling to the beach, California or Alaska, she was in her happy place because she was with family.
Loved ones that will miss Kay until they meet again are her son Mark and his daughter Claire; daughter Nancy and her husband Judd and their daughter Ella and her significant other Norm and his daughters Nancy and her husband Doug and Linda and her husband Ken and son David and his wife Carol. And many friends and family members whose lives were touched and made sweeter by knowing her.
