Kimberly Tripp Gunkel, 52, of Atlanta, passed away peacefully at her home in Atlanta on Sunday, November 18, 2018. Kimberly was born in Mobile, Alabama to Jimmy and Joan Tripp on February 28, 1966. She was an honors graduate of Hawkinsville High School and received a bachelor's degree in Interior Design from the University of Georgia. For a number of years, she worked as an interior designer in and around Atlanta where she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Craig Gunkel. They were married on October 13, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church in Hawkinsville. She was on the Members Guild of the Atlanta History Center and served as a sustaining member of the Junior League of Atlanta. A member of the Hawkinsville First United Methodist Church, she currently attended Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Atlanta.
Kimberly was a loving, caring individual always looking out for the needs of others. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside and lived every day to the fullest. Kimberly had no children of her own, but adored her nephew and niece. She and Bob loved international travel, visiting far away places such as Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand, South Africa, and even living in Europe for a short time.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Hermie Tripp of Abbeville, GA and Mildred and Revis Rabby of Coden, AL.
Kimberly is survived by her husband, and soulmate, her parents, two brothers, Shawn Tripp of Hawkinsville and Justin Tripp (Brooke) of Atlanta. One nephew, Davis Tripp and one niece, Cameron Tripp of Atlanta.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 20, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319. A celebration of life ceremony will take place Wednesday, November 21, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a internment at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs. Dr. Marcus V. Tripp of Macon will officiate.
A memorial service will be held in Hawkinsville at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or flowers will be accepted.
