Laura Moore Kearny died Nov 27, aged 87 in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, where her father was stationed in the US Navy. Only child of Rear Admiral John R. Moore and Anne Gugert Moore. She attended Lowell High Schools in San Francisco, Holton Arms in Washington, D.C. She began college at the University of New Hampshire, and completed her degree at age 42, at Georgia State University, in Atlanta.
Laura married Dex Kearny, a submarine officer, following him through his many stations while having and raising 4 children. In 1966, Dex retired from the Navy and became a stockbroker with Merrill Lynch in Atlanta. After retiring from ML in 1987, they split their time between family, grandchildren and frequent trips around the world. Laura loved to volunteer. Laura volunteered with the High Museum, for the Atlanta Symphony, and served as a docent at the Swan House and later at the Governor’s Mansion. She also volunteered at the Community Action Center and later at the Assistance League. A dedicated hostess, Laura loved gathering friends and family for every occasion.
Preceded in death by James Dexter Kearny, her husband of 57 years. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Kearny Katz and husband, (Bill); son, James D Kearny, jr. and wife (Cristie); daughter Anne Kearny Hardin and husband, (Douglas); and son, John Raymond Kearny and wife (Cindy) and eleven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
