

Leona Leavitt Walker, 89, passed away peacefully in her home with her three children around her on June 4, 2012. Leona, known as Lona, was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 16, 1922 daughter of Thomas Douglas Leavitt and Jesse Havencott. She was a graduate and strong supporter of Agnes Scott College with the double majors of Mathematics and History. Leona spent the first part of her adult life with her husband and family relocating for career reasons to many states and various countries including the Netherlands, Portugal and eventually Greece. She gathered a wealth of memories and countless fascinating stories that she could retell to any interested listener. Mrs. Walker returned to Atlanta in 1967 on the loss of her beloved husband Peter, Marine and radar engineer. As an employee of the Emory University Clinic for more than 25 years, Mrs. Walker ultimately worked administering the retirement plans for many of the partnership doctors before retiring herself. She had been a member of Central Presbyterian Church since childhood. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Peter Gautier Walker III, and her beloved sister, Mary Elizabeth Collins, affectionately known as Widdy. She is survived by her children, Lona Fleming (Tom), Peter Gautier Walker IV, and Lauren Dutro (Richard) her three grandchildren, Lauren Bayliss (Christopher), Robert Fleming (Kara) and Brett Dutro, her step-grandchildren Jessica Murray and Robin Bliven (Joel) and their children Lily and Bailey, and her great grandson, Finn Bayliss.
