Lois Benton passed away suddenly the morning of May 9th at the age of 91. She is survived by her daughter Dawn Benton, her son Bruce Benton and her daughter in law Sharon Benton. She had a long and satisfying life and remained reasonably healthy and active until the end.
Born in 1930 in Elkhorn Manitoba, Canada, she moved to Vancouver BC with her family early in World War II. She was a 1948 graduate of Kitsilano high school and worked in an insurance office as a secretary. She was very active in PTA during the early years of her family serving as PTA president for her children's elementary school and PTA Council President for the Lake Washington school district in Washington state.
After raising her family, she started a second career in women’s retail working as the manager of the Loehmann's store in Atlanta for almost 30 years.
A lifelong reader, she loved mysteries and biographies and enjoyed re-reading her favorite books and authors. She loved walking and travelling and hated chewing gum and carbonated beverages. For many years in retirement, she could be seen walking for miles along Buford highway or walking to Lenox square to stay fit and active. She felt fortunate to have seen as much of the world as she did, and Rome was her favorite destination (not counting Vancouver).
In her later years she spent a lot of time at the Chamblee senior center. She missed seeing her friends there during the past year with the center closed for the pandemic, but she was looking forward to the center opening again and catching up with people.
There will be a wake later this month and all her friends are welcome. For information please email [email protected]
