

Lucy Carolyn (Young) Broce was born on July 22, 1946, in Atlanta, GA at Crawford W. Long Memorial Hospital to Camilla Bray Young and Theo Kenneth Young. She was also raised by her aunt, Ilene Bray Weston, who was the sister of her mother, Camilla.
She completed her elementary and high school education at Westminster Schools and graduated from Emory University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and was a member of the Emory Women's Chorale. After graduating from Emory, she met the love of her life, Fred Lynn Broce at 8:07 (a singles group at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church) on May 5, 1968. They were married in that same church on March 29, 1969, in The Moore Chapel and were married for almost 57 years.
Carolyn was a devoted mother to her daughter, Karen Marie (Broce) May and her son, Allen Keith Broce. Throughout her career, she held administrative positions at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, Heiskell School, Mount Vernon Christian Academy, Peachtree Corners Baptist Church and was proud of her role as the Director of First Impressions at Jenny Pruitt and Associates. She was immensely proud of her dedication and involvement with her church, Peachtree Road United Methodist and had been a member there since 1957. She was on the Altar Guild and she and Fred loved their Blazer’s Sunday School Class and Seasoned Saints, and she was honored to be invited to join the Archive Committee to record the history of her beloved church.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Fred, their daughter Karen and her husband, Frank Lowell May and their son, Allen as well as Jennifer Keith Broce (Fred’s sister), Naomi Oliver (wife of her first cousin, William Lewis Oliver, Jr. (Bill) and their children, William Lewis Oliver, III (Lew) and Anne Marie Oliver and other relatives.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
