Margaret May DeHihns Nauful passed away January 20, 2023 in Decatur, GA, after a courageous battle with chronic kidney failure and lymphoma. An eternal optimist, she never complained or gave up hope. Margaret (Mag, as her siblings fondly called her) was born in Columbia, SC, on December 20, 1947, to Lee and Lucille Nash DeHihns. She graduated from Cardinal Newman School, in 1965, and she married her high school sweetheart, John Reed Nauful in 1967, after he graduated from The Citadel. Over the course of their marriage, they lived on three different continents and ten different states as John served as an officer in the Air Force.
Margaret never met a stranger and was generous to a fault. She loved her family fiercely and nothing made her happier than to gather the DeHihns and Nauful families for a holiday meal of Lebanese and traditional American favorites.
She is predeceased by her husband, John, her parents, and her in-laws, Albert and Louise Nauful. She is survived by her daughter Angie Nauful of Decatur, Georgia, who lovingly took care of her as her health declined; her son, Jeff Nauful (Renee) of Forest, Virginia; her grandchildren whom she loved unabashedly, Zach, Ciara and Dale Austin Nauful; a brother, Lee Angus DeHihns (Ellen) of Marietta, GA; sisters Mary Lu Dalton (Rod), Monica Rook, and Geralyn Swygert (Mark) of Columbia; sister-in-law, Marie Nauful (Steve), and brother-in-law, Joseph Nauful (Gloria), of Columbia, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering kindness and generosity of spirit.
A memorial service will be held for Margaret February 4, 2023 at 11am in the Prayer Garden at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Columbia, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cardinal Newman School https://www.cnhs.org/memorials/.
